How to Overcome Self Doubt

When someone has self-doubt, they don’t believe in their own skills, decisions, or judgment. It can show up as bad thoughts and feelings about oneself, like feeling uncertain or not good enough. Self-doubt can make a person less motivated to work toward their goals and less able to do so. It can also be detrimental to a person’s mental and emotional health. So here are a few ways to overcome self doubt.

  • self doubtIdentify triggers: Understanding what triggers your self-doubt can help you address and overcome it. Keep a journal and note when you feel self-doubt, what thoughts and feelings accompany it, and what situation or events might have led up to it.
  • Keep a gratitude journal: Focus on what you have, rather than what you don’t have, by writing down things you’re thankful for each day. Check out the link below to get started on your gratitude journal.
  • Reframe negative thoughts:Challenge negative self-talk and replace it with positive affirmations. Write down positive affirmations, such as “I am capable and competent” and “I am worthy and deserving,” and repeat them to yourself when you feel self-doubt creeping in.
  • Surround yourself with supportive people: Seek out friends and family who believe in you and your abilities, and who offer encouragement and support. Spending time with positive and supportive people can help boost your confidence and counteract feelings of self-doubt.
  • Set achievable goals: Breaking down larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks can help you build confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Celebrate each small victory along the way, and acknowledge your progress and hard work. Start a Journal or Goal list.
  • Focus on progress, not perfection: Emphasize personal growth and progress, rather than expecting perfection. Remember that everyone makes mistakes and has moments of failure, but what matters most is how you learn from them and keep moving forward.
  • Embrace failure: See failures as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as a reflection of your abilities. Recognize that failure is a natural and necessary part of the learning and growth process.
  • Build self-confidence: Engage in activities and experiences that increase your self-esteem and confidence. This could be as simple as taking up a new hobby or learning a new skill, or as complex as public speaking or volunteering for leadership roles.
  • Seek help: If self-doubt is impacting your daily life, consider seeking help from a therapist or counselor. They can provide you with strategies and tools for overcoming self-doubt and building confidence.
  • Celebrate successes: Acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments, big and small, to reinforce your confidence and belief in yourself. Keep a journal of your successes and accomplishments, and refer to it often to remind yourself of your strengths and capabilities.

Remember, doubting oneself is a common human emotion, but it doesn’t need to define you or hold you back. It’s something that can be conquered and self-belief with the correct resources and methods. With these steps you can start to overcome your self-doubt and build confidence and belief in yourself.
